Project description :

The aim of Copernicus Challenges is to foster the appropriation and use of space date from the Copernicus program by the end markets and enable the development of innovative services and applications related to the downstream market.

Aerospace Valley and the CNES are driving this action through three phases:

  • Identification of public or private actors faced with a specific application issue and proposing challenges in one of the following key areas: Renewable energy, Biodiversity, Planning, Climate, Health and Safety of infrastructures; which can be resolved by using space data from the Copernicus European earth observation and monitoring program.

  • Selection of French start-ups, SMEs and middle sized French companies proposing innovative solutions involving the use of Copernicus data

  • Financing of proof of concepts (one per challenge) up to 50 000 euros. French companies proposing winning solutions will work for six months to answer end users’ challenges and problems.

Copernicus challenges are part of an initiative which aims to develop, support, and bring together the space user community. The project also aims to stimulate the economic, societal, and environmental development of companies and institutional bodies of all sizes in France and all over the world which adopt solutions, technologies, and data from the space sector, including Copernicus, to imagine new uses.
