Launch of the European project AWARENESS

The official kickoff of the European project AWARENESS took place on October 7 and 8, 2026, hosted by Nîmes Métropole at B46.

AWARENESS ("Awareness And Preparation Of Local Authorities And Citizens Impacted By Forest Fires And Floods Nurturing Engagement For Societal Sustainability") is an ambitious three-year project designed to bridge the gap between local authorities, first responders, and citizens in the face of escalating wildfire and flood risks.

Funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation program and coordinated by Aerospace Valley, the project brings together 19 partners (18 beneficiaries and one associated partner) across France, Norway, Italy, Spain, Poland, and Belgium.

Drawing on several field pilots, its key objectives are to:

• Deploy resilient communication systems that operate even during terrestrial network outages, alongside targeted early warning systems for wildfires and flash floods (pilots in France, Spain, and Poland).
• Integrate advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence and digital twins, to dynamically assess vulnerabilities and simulate crisis scenarios (pilot in Norway).
• Strengthen community risk culture and support authority decision-making through platforms integrating hyper-local data and immersive educational tools (pilot in Italy).

We are thrilled to bring this consortium together and eager to collaborate on equipping European communities with concrete tools for long-term resilience !
