The Midi-Pyrenees and Aquitaine regions, Aerospace Valley territories, form a platform of excellence acknowledged in Europe and worldwide in the aeronautics, space and embedded systems sectors for the force of their economic activities and the human potential involved.
These assets have enabled the development of numerous SMEs/SMIs and the establishment within Aerospace Valley of several large, prestigious groups, such as:
These assets have enabled the development of numerous SMEs/SMIs and the establishment within Aerospace Valley of several large, prestigious groups, such as:
- Leaders in aeronautics, space and embedded systems:
Airbus, Air France Industries, Alcatel Alenia Space, Alstom Transport, ATR, CEA/CESTA, CNES, Dassault Aviation, DGA (AIA, CEAT, CAEPE, CELM, CEV, CEVAP), EADS Astrium, EADS Socata, EADS Space Transportation, Freescale Semiconducteurs, Microturbo (SAFRAN group), Rockwell Collins, Roxel Propulsion Systems, Siemens VDO Automotive, SME (SNPE Matériaux Energétiques), Snecma Propulsion Solide (SAFRAN group), Thales Airborne Systems, Thales Avionics, Turbomeca (SAFRAN group), Zodiac International, etc. - International equipment suppliers:
Alema, EADS Composites Aquitaine, Creuzet, EADS Sogerma, Exameca, Labinal, Latécoère, Liebherr Aerospace, Messier-Dowty (SAFRAN group), Potez, Ratier Figeac, SAFT, etc.
- A dynamic SME/SMI network, skilled in design-and-build and speciality subcontracting, working for major European and international contractors such as NASA, Boeing, Bombardier, Embraer and Avic.

In all, this represents 1,300 establishments and 94,000 jobs, including 40,000 jobs with the manufacturers and main equipment suppliers and 50,000 in the subcontracting network. With these figures, Midi-Pyrenees and Aquitaine compare very favourably with European Community countries.
As an example, the total number of jobs concerned in the two regions corresponds to 60 % of the total number of jobs in Germany and is more than all the jobs in Spain in these same sectors of activity.
But beyond the figures, it is the level of competencies throughout this territory that must be highlighted:

Thanks to this high level of competencies, the Aerospace Valley companies are established worldwide and in particular in the major programmes of the main aircraft manufacturers (Airbus, Boeing, Dassault Aviation, Bombardier, Embraer, Eurocopter, Avic, Bell, AgustaWestland, Sikorski, Cessna), the launcher programmes developed by CNES and ESA, and many defence programmes (military aircraft, M45 and M51 missiles, tactical missiles).
